Jerusalem’s ‘car-hating’ city council wants car meters removed
The Jerusalem city council on Wednesday approved a proposal to remove car meters from Jerusalem’s streets, as the Jerusalem Post reported.
The city’s planning and zoning commission decided that meters would not be installed in Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa mosque compound as planned, a move that has drawn criticism from Arab groups.
The move was met with opposition from the Israeli-Palestinian and Palestinian communities, who say the move would lead to further segregation.
The decision was met by cheers from the crowd.
