‘I’m not a bigot’: ‘Not everything in my life is a big deal’
A white man who was a victim of hate crime in Virginia in 2013 says he has come to the conclusion that his life is not important, that he can never change the color of his skin, that the hate that is directed at him is not real and that he is just another victim of a larger problem.
The Daily Beast spoke with Michael Johnson, who says he was the victim of racial profiling and other forms of bigotry in the aftermath of the fatal shooting of Walter Scott by a white police officer in the parking lot of a Walgreens.
Johnson, now a 27-year-old African-American man, is one of a number of people who have spoken out against racial profiling, racism, and other abuses in the wake of the deadly police shooting of Eric Garner, who died while in the grip of an illegal chokehold on the Staten Island resident.
Johnson says he is not a racist.
He has no problem with the use of force against blacks, Hispanics, women, and LGBT people.
Johnson’s experience in the past few years is not uncommon.
He says he saw other white men harassed and harassed after being the victim in other forms.
“The first time I had a racist incident, I was on the way to work in my car,” Johnson told the Beast.
“The car was a Chevy Volt.
I pulled out, the guy next to me pulled out his gun, and he was pointing at my face and saying, ‘You got to get out of the car!’
He was pointing.
And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I do, sir.’
And he was like, “Well, you got to move out of this car.””
Then I heard him yelling, ‘Shut up, nigga, shut up, you black bitch!’
“The incident, which occurred in a parking lot on Staten Island, is being investigated by the NYPD and the FBI.
Johnson says that while the police department is investigating the incident, he believes the police acted improperly.”
I think it’s really disgusting, that you can call someone a nigger, and then when they come to your house, you’re like, Oh my god, we’re gonna go after them,” he said.
Johnson has been outspoken in recent months about racial profiling.
He’s a registered Democrat, and said that when he first heard the term “nigger,” he thought, ‘What is this?
This is so horrible.'”
When you hear the term ‘nigger,’ you feel like you’re in a zoo,” he told the Daily Beast.
The comments came just days after another white woman, who is now in her 40s, told the Washington Post that she felt “disgusted” after seeing a police officer shoot a black man.”
I’m just thinking, I don’t know if it’s because I’m black or if it is because of what he’s doing, but I was disgusted by it. “
I just started crying.
I’m just thinking, I don’t know if it’s because I’m black or if it is because of what he’s doing, but I was disgusted by it.
I just felt like he was being racist.”
The New York City Police Department released a statement in response to the Leanna’s story.
The statement read, “There is no justification for a police action in the circumstances of this case, which was captured on video.
The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave and will be investigated for any misconduct.
There is no excuse for a violent act.
Police are trained to de-escalate any situation and we take every opportunity to do so.”
Johnson’s encounter with the officer, however, is different.
“When I saw the video, it didn’t feel like it was going to happen,” Johnson said.
“He just started yelling, and I’m thinking, What is this?” he said of the officer.
“And he was just pointing at me and saying.
‘You, you ain’t no nigger.
You ain’t a niggas nigger.'”
He said that the officer told him that his car was pulled over because he had a broken taillight and that his driver’s license was suspended for a year.
“And he said, ‘If you wanna move out, you gotta move out,’ and I was like what, what?”
Johnson said of his interactions with the police officer.
“So he started to tell me that he had his badge on and he had the badge on.
And then he was talking to me and I started to cry.
I was thinking, You know what, this is so, this just sucks.”
The NYPD declined to comment to the Daily Post, but the NYPD spokesperson did tell the Daily Mail that the incident is under investigation.
Johnson did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Daily News.
The NYPD said that it does not have any officers on administrative leave, and that its Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating all reports of incidents.
The Daily Beast also contacted the department, but a spokesperson did not answer questions about whether any
